Work Life Balance
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential for your mental and physical health, as it prevents stress and burnout. As we become more connected through technology and social media, it becomes increasingly difficult to separate work from our personal lives. As a business owner, it is your responsibility to assist your employees in balancing the demands of their work and personal lives. As a result of aiding your employees in finding the ideal balance between work and home, you will increase their engagement and productivity levels. Having an engaged workforce means that your employees will go "the extra mile" for you and become ardent supporters of your brand and product.
However, it is not only an organisational responsibility; we must all become more aware of how to strike a healthy balance between work and play. We all experience stress from time to time. It can't be avoided. These days, work-life balance can seem like an impossible feat with advancing technology making us accessible around the clock.
Here are my top eight tips for maintaining a work-life balance.
- Speak up when the expectations and demands of work are too much
- Take proper lunch breaks away from work
- Set a time to completely unplug from technology each day.
- Try to draw a line between work, leisure, and home life.
- Let go of perfectionism, good enough – is enough.
- Include some form of physical activity, meditation or mindfulness to your day.
- Give yourself at least 10 mins of quiet time each day, to just be still.
- 8.Express gratitude for the small things in your life.

Benefits of Walking
Walking is about as simple as it gets when it comes to exercise and physical activity for many people. And there's nothing wrong with keeping things simple. Walking is an excellent way to boost and maintain your overall health. Just 30 minutes per day can improve cardiovascular fitness, bone and muscle strength, balance, excess body fat, and endurance. Contrary to popular belief, pounding the pavement can help improve your range of motion and mobility by increasing blood flow to tense areas and strengthening the muscles surrounding your joints. It can also lower your chances of developing conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and some cancers.
Adults should get about 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week, which equates to 30 minutes of walking five days a week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). So, on most days of the week, try to walk for at least 30 minutes as briskly as you can. If walking for 30 minutes at a time is too difficult, do small bouts of 10 minutes three times per day and gradually build up to longer sessions. Try to make walking a habit by walking at the same time every day. Track your steps with a pedometer or use one of the many free apps available.
Some suggestions to build walking into your daily routine include:
- Take the stairs instead of the lift (for at least part of the way).
- Disembark from public transportation one stop earlier and walk to work or home.
- Take a walk (rather than driving) to the local shops.
- Take a walk during your lunch break.
- Consider holding walking meetings.
